By replacing your missing teeth, dentures allow you to continue to enjoy your favourite foods and maintain your appearance. People can lose their teeth, sometimes one or all of them, for many reasons, but by not replacing them you are putting your putting your health and wellbeing at risk as it will negatively affect your diet, speech and self-image.
At Manchester Dental Practice, we have considerable experience of successfully fitting all types of dentures to wide variety of, very satisfied, patients.
What is a denture?
There are two types of dentures: partial and complete. Some patients need “complete” dentures which offer a complete solution to replacing all teeth on either the top or bottom of the jaw.
“Partial” dentures replace one or more teeth and are made from plastic or plastic-metal composite. Partial dentures improve mouth health because when you have a gap, caused by missing teeth, your existing teeth can shift into the wrong position. Partial dentures fasten to your teeth using clasps which can be either metal or tooth coloured. This bolsters your existing teeth thereby stopping them moving into abnormal positions. Dentures can normally be fitted immediately after teeth have been removed.
How can dentures help you?
The absence of teeth can make you look older than your age because of the sagging it causes to your face. Dentures replicate the functional value of your teeth but also the structural support they bring to your cheeks and lips so your face can radiate with natural charm again, boosting your confidence and smile.
What is the treatment for Dentures?
When you visit Manchester Dental Practice, you can have the peace of mind of being in the capable hands of a highly professional and dedicated team. We are passionate about giving you a first-class experience with results to boost your confidence and the vitality of your smile. As with every treatment we offer, our award winning clinicians will carefully talk through your options to ensure you can make the best choices about looking and feeling good about your smile.
The first step in denture treatment is to place the denture implant on the jaw usually under local anaesthetic. It takes six to eight weeks for it to bed-in fully. After the jaw heals, we take impressions to make a handcrafted crown or bridge to closely resemble your remaining teeth. The final step is to fix the new replacement teeth to the implant.
